Cambourne is one of Cambridgeshire's larger planned settlements, built quickly from the late 1990s onwards, and while the properties are relatively modern, the standard builder-grade network infrastructure often leaves much to be desired.
Most homes in Cambourne are two and three-storey detached and semi-detached properties with open-plan ground floors - layouts where a single router in the hallway simply cannot cover the upper floors and rear rooms reliably. Fibre optic cabling from the router to a switch and then to access points on each floor is the straightforward fix, and in these properties the cable runs are usually clean and predictable because the buildings were constructed with accessible ceiling voids and standardised stud partitions.
Cambourne also has a notable proportion of residents working from home, given its position as a commuter village. A properly cabled internal network means that work-from-home performance is consistent and does not depend on which room you happen to be in or how many other devices are connected.
